About "Out"
A Word from the Publisher
Dear Readers,
Here we are, celebrating the one-year anniversary of Out of Denver! I cannot believe how quickly this year has gone by, a year filled with so many wonderful changes for me personally and for our magazine.
I am grateful to my friends and family who told me to forge ahead and produce a magazine that represents the area South of Denver (SoDe) at its finest. I truly love living here, and am so thankful that I was able to raise my children in our safe, healthy family environment.
I send a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful advertisers who have enthusiastically embraced our new magazine and share in its vision. And to the amazing group of artistic, intelligent, dedicated, loyal and passionate staff that continues to inspire and encourage me-thank you! It is your support, collaboration and input that help to make this magazine endearing to our readers.
With the economic recession, this past year has been an exceptionally difficult time for so many business owners and residents. And, like me, many have had to change careers or begin new businesses in a down market. Personally, I know it's a scary thing to go through, and our advertisers and local business owners have my highest respect for their standards of excellence and their dedication to not only their business but to our community. In spite of difficult times, I have witnessed and participated in events and fundraisers, and have been touched by the enormous generosity of our community to continue to give in support of others.
In keeping with perseverance as the sign of the times, we have a truly inspiring story for you. For our In the Neighborhood department, Andrew Johnson writes of three SODE residents who, through sheer inner strength and determination, have successfully reached their goals of qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kailua Kona, Hawaii - a true testament of being pushed to the edge and coming out a winner. Read their motivating story, and I guarantee you, it will make you think twice about coming up with any excuse to miss a gym workout!
And, for you winter athletes, check out our SlopeSide column. Claudia gives us a comprehensive guide to all the new and cool improvements at our ski resorts along with some great deals and discounts.
As we move into our new year with the magazine, it may not be a coincidence that Thanksgiving is also around the corner. There is much to be thankful for, and I hope for you, as you gather for your Thanksgiving dinner, that the conversation with your family and loved ones will turn to your sharing of all that you are grateful for too.
Happy Fall!
