When Kathy Messenger is caught up in the whirl of a wedding or helping to choose the perfect gift, special event or everyday outfit with style for a little one, she's in her element. Three Blind Mice has been a Denver-area institution--a grown-up word for such an adorable establishment--for more than a decade. Messenger has great instincts and the ability to add just the right touch to any occasion. "Fashion is always changing, but good taste is always in style," she said. "We feel grateful to be included in some of the most important days in a child's life."
Growing up in Detroit, she played with trains and cap guns but admits to being a "pushover for pretty clothes." Messenger honed her sales skills at Kool-Aid® stands in front of her house and selling candy to the other kids. "We were always selling something to raise money for the school."
In high school, Messenger worked part time at Jacobson's in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, an exclusive store on a par with Saks or Neiman Marcus. Later, she decided the wholesale industry she was involved with wasn't providing the spark she wanted. Popping in and out of children's stores did. "Sometimes what you are truly looking for is right under your feet," she said, adding that she had learned the fine art of customer service and gift presentation at Jacobson's and incorporated them into her business approach.
Now Three Blind Mice is trading its bricks-and-mortar location for a virtual store. "Our online business opened on December 1. Like any online store, it allows our customers to access our selection of merchandise 24/7. Our site is arranged just like our store. If customers are local--in the Denver metro area--we deliver their purchases at no charge. If they are out of area, we ship like other sites. For customers who don't use a computer, we are happy to work with them and bring items directly to their homes. We are trying to bring more convenience to our customers." "I get great satisfaction in helping to make my customers' lives easier," Messenger said. She promises that a visit to the new Three Blind Mice online store will provide the same eye-catching inventory and outstanding customer shopping experience for which the business has always been known.
