On The Road

The Spirit of Sunrise
Wanderlust. If you're smitten with it, you know the symptoms: the soles of your feet get itchy, and your heart swells with yearning to hit the road and seek sights beyond the horizon.
By Rose Muenker
My photographer-husband David and I have an incurable case of wanderlust. For years we dreamed of pulling up stakes and traveling the roads of America. Reasons not to follow our dream kept holding us back, especially the comfort of living in a neighborhood and city we adore. When our itchy feet became unbearable, we realized that we either had to give up our dream or follow it in earnest. We chose to pursue it. Within a few months of making the decision, we sold our furniture, most of our possessions and the house we called home for 20 years. Then we invested in new road-worthy digs and an office on wheels-a recreational vehicle (RV). After a lot of searching for a motor coach that would meet our personal, professional and financial parameters, we found the one for us-a pre-owned Winnebago Itasca Sunrise. It's large enough to accommodate each of our needs for space-we want our marriage of 23 years to continue thriving-and it's small enough to get into the parks and forests we love. Like we do with all our vehicles, we gave our RV a name. Since the model name seemed so appropriate for our travels,we call our traveling home The Spirit of Sunrise.
WE'RE NOW OFFICIALLY ON THE ROAD!
Come join us on our travels in every issue of Out of Denver. In the coming months, we will:
- savor a variety of regional dishes
- attend colorful festivals
- chat with artists and artisans in towns large and small
- explore scenic and historic byways
- stroll America's main streets
- admire our country's natural beauty
- hike in national parks and forests
- dig into America's rich history and traditions
and more
We're headed east, following the sun and temperate climate, spending time in any given place until the road beckons again. Along the way, we'll share the sights through David's photos. And when our dog Sonya discovers something special, we'll share that too.(For you curious pet lovers, Sonya is half German shorthaired pointer and half Brittany spaniel-pure bird dog. She loves hitting the road and sniffing out new places.) As we say farewell to Colorado until next summer, we'd like to leave you with photos of some of our favorite places in this beautiful state.
